HCA Midwest Plans to Buy Carondelet’s KC Hospitals

HCA Midwest Health System is in negotiations to buy St. Joseph Medical Center and St. Mary’s Medical Center.

In a release Tuesday, the hospitals’ parent company, St. Louis-based Ascension Health, said it planned to sell its Carondelet Health subsidiaries in Kansas City to HCA, a for-profit chain that already owns 10 acute-care and critical-care hospitals in the metro area.

Ascension would retain Carondelet’s three long-term care facilities.
