Engelhardt Leaves Patriot Coal

Longtime St. Louis-area coal executive Irl F. Engelhardt is stepping aside as chairman and chief executive of Patriot Coal Corp. as the company announced a series of executive and governance changes related to efforts to restructure under federal bankruptcy laws.

The Creve Coeur-based coal producer, spun off from Peabody Energy Corp. in 2007, didn’t provide a reason for Engelhardt’s departure. The company named Bennett K. Hatfield as its new CEO and appointed him to the board. Read more on St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
