Clearwire CEO Promotes Sprint-SoftBank Deal as Complementary

Network similarities between Clearwire, owned by Kansas City-based Sprint Nextel Corp., and SoftBank Corp. would make an alignment with the Japanese wireless carrier a “disruptive force” in the industry, Clearwire CEO Eric Prusch said.

The comments on Thursday came as Bellevue, Wash.-based Clearwire reported a 6 percent drop in revenue and a wider loss for the third quarter. SoftBank seeks to buy a 70 percent stake in Overland Park-based Sprint, which increased its stake in Clearwire to 50.8 percent last week. He emphasized to investors during a Thursday afternoon conference call that Sprint’s majority stake doesn’t translate to a controlling interest.
