Seeking New Answers to Old Problem of Vacant Land

St. Louis has too many vacant lots and too few ideas on what to do with them. This weekend, it will launch a competition to generate some new ones.

Washington University and City Hall are partnering on what they’re calling the “Sustainable Land Lab,” a contest that will hand over four vacant lots in the city’s Old North St. Louis neighborhood for two years to whoever can come up with the best ideas to put them back into productive use. Organizers are expecting to hear from artists, designers, entrepreneurs, urban farmers and more.
