KC Chamber: Region Could Boom or Bust Depending on Fiscal Cliff

If America goes over the fiscal cliff, it would cost the Kansas City region more than 41,000 jobs, according to a forecast made public this morning.

The fiscal cliff is the combination of $600 billion in federal spending cuts and tax increases set to hit Jan. 1. Economists have said the weak economy could be thrust into another recession if lawmakers in Washington don’t agree on a path around the fiscal cliff.

In the event lawmakers fail, the Kansas City regional economy would succumb to recession as well, according to the forecast released by the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce during a presentation at the Westin Crown Center Hotel.
