Footwear Chain In Bankruptcy Discloses Store Closings

St. Louis-based Bakers Footwear Group said the three Bakers Shoes stores in Kansas City’s Independence Center, Chesterfield and Springfield are among 150 that will be liquidated by the end of the year. More than 60 stores will stay open during Bakers Footwear Group’s Chapter 11 bankruptcy restructuring.

Bakers Footwear Group filed for bankruptcy on Oct. 3 and last week the chain auctioned off the inventory of the stores slated for liquidation. If Bakers can’t finalize financing commitments to keep running the last 63 stores, the joint venture will liquidate those as well, according to a release.
