Hostess Shutting Down, Selling Brands

Hostess Brands said Friday it has asked a bankruptcy court to approve a request to close the business and sell all its assets.

Irving, Texas-based Hostess, the maker of Wonder bread, Twinkies and other snack cakes, said a bakers’ union strike that began a week ago crippled its ability to produce and deliver products. On Monday, Hostess closed a plant in St. Louis that employs 365 people, in addition to closing plants in Cincinnati and Seattle.
