Sprint, Softbank Make Their Case to FCC

Sprint Nextel Corp. and Japanese suitor SoftBank Corp. asked the Federal Communications Commission approve their merger, asserting in documents filed late Thursday that it wouldn’t harm competition in U.S. wireless markets because SoftBank has no interests in domestic wireless carriers.SoftBank seeks to purchase 70 percent of Overland Park-based Sprint in a $20.1 billion deal.
The filings revealed that SoftBank will acquire Sprint’s interest in Clearwire Corp. if the merger is approved.
