Missouri Loses Nuclear Reactor Bid

Ameren Missouri and Westinghouse Electric Corp. did not receive funds from the U.S. Department of Energy to develop a small modular nuclear reactor at Ameren Missouri’s Callaway County nuclear power plant near Fulton.

Instead, the department chose to support a similar project by Babcock & Wilcox and the Tennessee Valley Authority. Ameren Missouri and other Missouri utilities supported Westinghouse’s application, which was seeking to get up to $452 million in fund from the Department of Energy to build the reactors.

Ameren Missouri said it will continue to work with the Department of Energy to secure funding for the project.
