PSC Approves $260 Million Ameren Rate Increase

The new year will mean new, higher electric rates for 1.2 million Ameren Missouri customers.

The Missouri Public Service Commission voted 3-1 Wednesday to approve a $260.2 million rate increase for the St. Louis-based utility.

The increase represents about two-thirds of the amount Ameren sought and is expected to take effect on Jan. 2. It is the fifth electric rate increase for the utility since May 2007.

Ameren in February sought approval to boost rates by $376 million, or 15 percent. The utility said the increase was necessary to cover costs of making the local electric grid more reliable, cutting power plant pollution and implementing energy efficiency programs.
