Businessman Who Ignited Branson Boom Dies

Jim Thomas, the man many say introduced the parade of stars that has made Branson’s strip an international entertainment destination, died this week at his home, and funeral services will be held Sunday. The appliance store owner parlayed his country music contacts into a number of businesses in Branson. He’d lure a string of some of the genre’s greatest stars — Roy Clark, Jim Stafford, Boxcar Willie, Mickey Gilley, the Mandrell sisters, Mel Tillis, Tony Orlando, the Gatlin brothers and others — to the southwest Missouri tourist town.
