Kansas City Construction Employment Stumbles

Year-to-year construction employment in Kansas City declined in Kansas and Missouri in November, according to a new analysis of federal employment data compiled by the Associated General Contractors of America.

Ken Simonson, the association’s chief economist, said fiscal cliff discussions slowed the industry in November.

Employment shrank 9 percent in Kansas City, Mo., falling to 18,800 in November 2012 from 20,700 in November 2011. In Kansas City, Kan., construction employment dropped 4 percent, falling to 15,400 in November 2012 from 16,000 the year before.
