Despite Cool Winter, Missouri’s Drought Continues

The U.S. Department of Agriculture declared 63 counties in Missouri disaster areas due to continuing drought conditions. Dan Gieseke, an official from the USDA’s Columbia office, said ponds that dried up in the summer are still dry and it’s getting harder to find water under the ground’s surface. Gieseke said many farmers are still having a tough time finding water to water quench the thirst of their livestock, as well as finding reasonably priced hay to feed them.
