Developer Declines To Pay Property Taxes On Stalled Project

For the third year in a row, developer Paul McKee last year did not pay property taxes on his Hazelwood Commerce Center project. Now the 151-acre site could be sold at a county tax auction in August. The high-profile developer now owes nearly $2 million in taxes, interest and penalties on the site just west of Lambert-St. Louis International Airport. He had hoped to turn it into an industrial park before environmental problems and lawsuits slowed its redevelopment.
