Monsanto Chairman Sells Company Shares in Unusual Transaction

Monsanto Chairman and CEO Hugh Grant has sold 30,000 shares of the company’s stock for $3 million.

Grant now holds 423,382 shares, less than 1 percent of the company’s outstanding stock in the Creve Coeur-based company, according to Barron’s Online, which reported the Jan. 22 sale. Grant also holds 120,000 shares through a trust and 6,689 shares through a 401(k).

The sale is Grant’s first open-market sale. Before this transaction, Grant most recently exercised options and sold 168,500 shares on July 3 for $14.1 million.
