Energizer Sales Rise Amid Q1 Profit Loss

Energizer Holdings reported that net earnings in its first fiscal quarter fell nearly 10 percent to $129.8 million compared with the prior-year quarter, but battery sales for the St. Louis-based company were helped by increased demand due to Hurricane Sandy.

For its first quarter ended Dec. 31, Energizer reported net sales of $1.19 billion, down half a percent from the first quarter of fiscal 2012. Earnings in the recent quarter “slightly” exceeded the company’s expectation, CEO Ward Klein said in a statement.

Klein said the company’s previously announced restructuring plans remain on track to achieve $25 to $35 million in savings in fiscal 2013.
