Build-A-Bear Founder Announces Retirement

Maxine Clark, the CEO and founder of Overland-based Build-A-Bear Workshop, soon will step down from the throne of her stuffed-animal empire. Clark, 63, announced Thursday that she plans to retire.

Clark will continue in her role until a successor is named, and she will remain on the company’s board of directors. She said her future plans involve applying her entrepreneurial spirit to improve public education in the region.

Also this week, Clayton-based Cepia filed a federal suit alleging patent and copyright infringement by Build-A-Bear Workshop. It’s the second suit Cepia has brought against its competitor in three years.
