Sigma-Aldrich’s 4Q Profit Rises 7 Percent

Acquisitions made in 2012 contributed to Sigma-Aldrich Corp.’s fourth-quarter profit rising 7 percent.

The St. Louis-based seller of scientific supplies reported a $116 million profit for the fourth quarter that ended Dec. 31, or 96 cents a share, up from a $108 million profit, or 89 cents a share, a year ago.

Net sales increased to $655 million, up from $610 million a year ago, with acquisitions the company made in 2012 increasing sales by 6 percent.
