HCA Midwest Looks To New Lawyers In Health Care Foundation Suit

HCA Midwest Health System is on its third set of attorneys to handle the lawsuit brought by the Health Care Foundation of Greater Kansas City.

A trio of Latham & Watkins LLP lawyers from New York and Boston now will take the case, after a judge’s ruling that HCA owes the foundation at least $162 million.

The suit arose from HCA’s 2003 purchase of most of the nonprofit Health Midwest system. The company pledged to invest $450 million in capital improvements to the system as well as provide $653 million in charity care.
