Sprint Agrees To Join Department Of Energy Efficiency Initiative

The U.S. Department of Energy announced on Thursday that Sprint Nextel Corp. is joining the agency’s initiative to improve energy efficiency. Sprint’s involvement with the Better Buildings Challenge means the Overland Park, Kan.-based wireless carrier has committed to reduce its energy consumption by 20 percent by 2017.

The Department of Energy already considers the 200-acre Sprint Campus in Overland Park an environmentally responsible office development. Sprint secures 5 percent of its energy use from wind, solar, geothermal and hydrogen fuel cells.
