Contractors Didn’t Have Permit For Work Near JJ’s Explosion

Kansas City Manager Troy Schulte said that Heartland Midwest LLC did not have a permit for the drilling and excavation near the site of the Feb. 19 explosion at JJ’s Restaurant. At the time, Heartland was working as an independent contractor for Time Warner Cable, drilling to install fiber-optic cable.

The resulting gas leak is what is believed to have caused the explosion which demolished the popular restaurant, which injured 15 and killed one.
