Vying For Clearwire, Dish Calls For FCC Scrutiny Of Sprint

Dish Network said in a filing Monday with the Federal Communications Commission that U.S. regulators should get more information on Softbank’s $20 billion purchase of Sprint Nextel, which is vying with Dish for control of Clearwire.

Dish said in the filing that the FCC needs to know more about the consequences of placing U.S. airwaves under the control of foreign companies, like Tokyo-based Softbank, and that the FCC should listen to shareholders who want to block a bid for Clearwire by Sprint, an Overland Park, Kan. company.

Satellite-television provider Dish, expanding into mobile- phone service, also has bid for Clearwire, a wireless-network operator with valuable spectrum. Clearwire on Feb. 1 said it remained in discussions with both companies.
