General Motors broke ground today on a new paint shop at its Fairfax Assembly Plant in Kansas City, Kan.
Construction of the new paint shop is part of a $600 million investment in the plant. The project includes a new stamping press and other equipment upgrades.
The new paint shop, which will be finished by December 2014 and operational by August 2015, is expected to make the Fairfax Assembly Plant one of the most technologically advanced of all GM’s plants around the globe. It will lower the plant’s energy use by as much as 50 percent and reduce its waste stream.
