House Business Committee Votes To End Tax Break For Buying Cars Outside Missouri

Legislators are moving to end a tax break that has prompted some Missourians to cross state lines to buy cars, trucks and boats.The House Committee on Small Business approved a bill that would reimpose local sales taxes on motor vehicles that Missourians buy in other states and from individuals. Since a court last year exempted the tax, cities and counties without a voter-approved local “use tax” have lost more than $43 million in revenue.
