Swedish furniture store Ikea continues to see the St. Louis area as a potential market, despite being yet to select any specific sites, according to a company spokesperson.
Social and news media have been buzzing since news website nextSTL.com cited sources Sunday who said the retailer plans to develop its first St. Louis store near Saint Louis University.

We recognize a customer base exists for us in the St. Louis area, but we don't have a time frame for opening a store there and we haven't selected a site," said Joseph Roth, director of public affairs for Ikea. While an attempt to land an Ikea at the Hadley Township development in Richmond Heights failed last year, the company still views St. Louis as a viable market for a new location, according to Roth.”
This news comes on the heels of Ikea’s recent announcement that it will open a new store in Kansas City in 2014.
