SLU Professor Gets Grant For Cancer Treatment Study

Ratna Ray, professor of pathology at St. Louis University, has been awarded a $39,425 grant for her work studying bitter melon extract to see if it can be used to stop the spread of head and neck cancers.

The grant, which was awarded to Ray by the Lottie Caroline Hardy Charitable Trust, will help her continue her research on the bitter melon extract. The next round of Ray’s study will involve feeding mice the extract to see if it will slow head and neck cancer. If this study proves successful, Ray says that it could lead to a clinical trial in humans.
