Arch Coal Losses Widened on Lower Sales Volume in First Quarter

Losses for Arch Coal widened in the first quarter, the Creve Coeur-based company reported this morning.

The nation’s second-largest coal producer reported an adjusted net loss of $72 million, or 34 cents per diluted share, in the recent period. That compared unfavorably with a year-earlier adjusted net loss of $8 million, or 4 cents per diluted share.

Revenues totaled $826 million in the first quarter of 2013 on lower sales volumes compared with the prior-year quarter, the company said.
