SoftBank Won’t Try To Outbid Dish, CEO Says

With a counteroffer on the table from Dish Network, the CEO of SoftBank said his company has no plans to up its original offer for Sprint Nextel.

Masayoshi Son, SoftBank’s chief executive, said his company’s $20.1 billion bid for Overland Park, Kan.-based Sprint is “a better deal” than the $25.5 billion offer filed by Englewood, Colo.-based Dish earlier this month. Son cited SoftBank’s experience in wireless phone networks and said the Japanese company’s offer would give Sprint more buying power and require less debt to repay than the deal proposed by Dish.
