IKEA is moving forward with building its new Kansas City-area store and has named Kansas City-based J.E. Dunn Construction as the construction manager for the 359,000 square-foot facility.

The store, which will overlook Interstate 35 in Merriam, Kan., will be the first in the region for the Swedish retailer. Demolition of a vacant shopping center currently occupying the site of the future store is expected to begin later this month, and the store is scheduled to open in fall 2014.
