Ameren Reports Jump In First-Quarter Profit From Continuing Operations

Ameren on Thursday reported a 46 percent jump in profit from continuing operations, helped by colder winter weather that drove greater energy use and an electric rate increase in Missouri.

Ongoing business generated earnings of $54 million, or 22 cents a share, compared with $37 million, or 15 cents, in last year’s first quarter for the St. Louis-based company. The first-quarter results exclude a loss of $199 million, or 82 cents a share, from Ameren’s Illinois power generation business, which the company agreed to transfer to Dynegy.
