It seems identity thieves prefer sunnier climates to Missouri. The state ranked 27th among U.S. states with the most complaints about identity theft, according to a report from IdentityProtection.com, a website from the Equifax credit rating agency. The report was compiled from data released by the Federal Trade Commission.
Missouri’s 4,000 complaints were well below the total of nearly 70,000 in Florida, the state most fraught with identity theft incidents. Kansas fared well, too. With just over 2,000 complaints, Kansas ranked 30th. Following Florida, the states with the most cases of identity theft per capita were Georgia, California, Michigan and New York.
