Bill Clarifies Process For City Hospital Sales, Settles NKC Fight

Gov. Jay Nixon signed a bill today that regulates the sale of city-owned hospitals and effectively settles a standoff between North Kansas City and North Kansas City Hospital.

The new bill requires a hospital’s board to adopt a resolution to sell by a two-thirds vote. The resolution must then pass through the city clerk, the city council and a public vote to be approved. In North Kansas City, city and hospital officials have fought for months over the city’s right to sell the hospital.
