Macy’s plans to lay off 58 employees, primarily sales associates and store managers, between July 28 and Aug. 10 due to the planned closing of its downtown St. Louis department store.

The downtown location currently employs a total of 94 workers. Employees at the downtown store not among the 58 set to be laid off work in positions that support all of Macy’s St. Louis-area stores. They will be moved to other stores, according to Jim Sluzewski, senior vice president of corporate communications and external affairs at Macy’s.

Macy’s filed a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) report with the state of Missouri on May 24 detailing the layoffs.
