Trends: Can Changing How Doctors Get Paid Mean Better Care?

One of the biggest trends in health care that’s sweeping across Kansas City is the move to patient-centered medical homes, and proponents hope it will mean better patient outcomes at lower costs. The president of a Leawood, Kan.-based company that is spearheading the movement by helping clinics transition into the medical home model said many services important to managing a patient’s health should occur outside of an office visit but don’t generate revenue in the current fee-for-service model.
