Patriot Coal has appealed a bankruptcy court order that favored its former parent, Peabody Energy, in a dispute over retiree benefits.

On May 29, a U.S. Bankruptcy judge denied Patriot’s request that Peabody continue paying its own obligations for health care benefits for certain retirees. Patriot moved to modify its agreements with the miners union under a separate ruling last month.
