To meet FCC rules that one company cannot own two of the four top-rated TV stations in a designated market area, St. Louis area CBS station KMOV (Channel 4) will be sold as its parent company Belo merges with Gannett, owner of St. Louis NBC affiliate KSDK (Channel 5).

KMOV is one of two Belo stations that will have to be sold as Gannett completes its $2.2 billion deal to purchase Belo and its 20 TV stations across the country, KMOV and a station in Phoenix will be bought and operated by a former Belo executive who lives in Phoenix. Sander said KMOV and KSDK, longtime rival stations, will continue to operate separately.
