UM System Extends Benefits To Same-Sex Partners

The University of Missouri System Board of Curators voted to extend benefits to same-sex partners of system employees if they meet certain criteria. An estimated 500 part-time system employees will gain coverage in 2014. The measure was part of a larger set of changes to the university’s regulations governing employee health benefits. Expanding coverage to comply with the Affordable Care Act will keep the university from receiving a $39 million fine from the federal government, the head of human resources said.
