Missouri Metro Areas Lose Millions In Potential Online Sales Tax Revenue

Kansas City, Mo., will miss out on more than $5.9 million this year in sales taxes from online sales, and St. Louis will miss out on $2.5 million, according to a study conducted for the U.S. Conference of Mayors. It calculates how much various cities and counties could collect in sales taxes if the Marketplace Fairness Act was in place. The legislation would allow jurisdictions to enforce payment of sales taxes on e-commerce transactions by retailers in other locations.
