Patriot Coal, Union Agree On Benefits

St. Louis-based Patriot Coal and the United Mine Workers have reached an agreement in which retiree health care benefits will be provided at current levels through August. Patriot Coal Corp. has cut wages and benefits for thousands of active coal miners, little more than a month after receiving court approval. But the company said the terms implemented Monday are “significantly improved” from what the court authorized as a result of continuing talks with the union.
