Work started this week on a $165 million development project in Mission, Kan., that was first announced in 2005 but was set back by the recession. The 26.5-acre Mission Gateway project, managed by Syracuse, N.Y. developer Cameron Group LLC, is on track to open by the summer of 2015. It will include 330 high-end apartment units and 400,000 square feet of retail space anchored by a 150,000-square-foot Walmart.

The project has been scaled back to exclude a 70,000-square-foot saltwater aquarium, 100,000 square feet of office space and a 150-room hotel called for in the original plan.
