Cerner To Redevelop KC Mall Site As Office Park For Up To 15,000

Cerner Corp. plans to turn the site of the old Bannister Mall in south Kansas City — long a prominent example of blight — into an office park that could ultimately employ up to 15,000 people. The North Kansas City-based health care information technology giant confirmed its plans to redevelop the 236-acre swath of land, for which a development group led by Cerner’s co-founders received approval for $10.7 million in state tax credits.

The Bannister site is close to an existing Cerner facility, the company’s “Innovation Campus.” The new project would be an expansion of the campus that would occur over an extended period and potentially house 12,000 to 15,000 additional employees at full capacity, based on Cerner’s growth.
