Anti-Rezoning Push In St. Louis Suburb Stalls Big Projects

Three proposed developments in Town and Country have drawn strong opposition from a growing group of residents, who are approaching the issue of rezoning in the spacious St. Louis suburb with a fervor that has surprised some.

Plans for the Allegro Senior Living complex, a BJC Healthcare building and new ballfields and maintenance facilities for Maryville University have been either delayed or altered in the face of blowback from No Re-zoning in Town and Country, a grassroots group some 200 residents strong. The group is fighting against development that its leaders say “degrades and erodes” the community.
