North Kansas City-based Cerner and Wisconsin-based Epic, Cerner’s largest competitor in the electronic medical records field, hold 75 percent of their industry’s large-hospital contracts, according to a new report by vendor research firm KLAS Enterprises.
The report, which looks at the market share of six leading electronic medical records companies, shows that there’s more room for growth in the field, as 443 hospitals with at least 200 beds do not use a currently marketed electronic health records system.
Despite that growth potential, the report says, the companies ranked No. 4 through No. 6 in the industry — Allscripts, Meditech and Siemens — “are being squeezed out.”
