Missouri Judge Blocks Laws On Cellphone Towers

A Missouri judge has blocked two new state laws that would have limited the ability of governments to regulate cellphone towers. Six cities in western Missouri filed a lawsuit that claims the laws violate the constitution by imposing an unfunded mandate on local governments. In June, the Missouri Municipal League urged Gov. Jay Nixon to veto the legislation. But supporters said the change in state law would spur investments in technology leading to economic development and job growth. Cole County Circuit Judge Pat Joyce wrote in a brief that the laws violate multiple sections of the Missouri Constitution. KSDK reports that the judge issued a preliminary injunction barring the law to go into effect as scheduled on Wednesday.
