Restaurant Owner Gets 15-Year Sentence For Arson

Rodney J. Anderson, who was convicted last year for setting his Kansas City Hereford House restaurant ablaze, was sentenced to 15 years in prison. Prosecutors sought a tougher sentence of 19 years, noting that Anderson was “lucky” nobody was injured or killed the blaze. However, a U.S. District Judge noted that it’s tough for judges to sentence people who have no prior convictions and have a strong history — as Anderson did — of community involvement and philanthropy. The judge noted that about 100 letters of support had been written and submitted to the court praising Anderson’s character and called them some of the nicest he’s ever read in such number.
