St. Louis Zoo Eyes Ambitious Expansion

St. Louis Zoo officials last week presented plans for an expansion project that would be the most ambitious in the zoo’s history. The expansion would include a new southern campus with a boutique hotel, a research center, an overarching gondola and room for new exhibits.

The first strategic plan should be complete by the end of 2014, zoo president Jeffrey Bonner said. Federal grants, state tax credits, private donations and a possible local property tax increase would pay for the project, which would be completed in phases over 20 to 30 years and cost hundreds of millions of dollars.
