Overland Park, Kan.-based engineering giant Black & Veatch and Kansas City solar energy company Brightergy LLC are forming a strategic alliance to develop $100 million worth of solar energy projects during the next three years. The two companies will start working in the Kansas City area, installing 70 different rooftop solar panel projects for commercial clients, schools, hospitals and retirement communities, among others.

Brightergy, which recently won a $3.2 million deal to furnish solar panels for Kansas City will be “project developer” and provide sales, marketing and financing resources. Black & Veatch will handle engineering, procurement and construction.

A spokesman for the engineering company said the companies aim to expand the solar projects elsewhere in the county after working in Kansas City. He said Texas, California and the Northeast are all attractive markets for future commercial rooftop solar projects.
