A section of Kansas City has recently seen a multitude of hookah lounges spring up in a short period of time.
One of the first hookah lounges in the area, Main Street Tobacco and Gifts, opened seven years ago. But there was no growth in demand until recently.
The current hookah lounges breed only a moderate level of competitiveness, with each boasting different atmospheres ranging from Middle Eastern to night-club feels.
Kansas City hookah clientele is diverse, but the recent increase is primarily attributed to a younger demographic bolstering sales. The lounges appeal to college students similar to how a coffee shop would, with hookah served with free Wi-Fi, and coffee, tea and smoothies.
