St. Louis homeownership rates dropped from 71.9 percent to just more than 70 percent between 2010 and 2012, according to a new report from the Census Bureau.
However, the region’s homeownership rate remains among the highest in the country for metropolitan areas. Of the nation’s 50 largest metro areas, only Minneapolis has a higher homeownership rate than St. Louis.
The rate varies greatly from region to region. More than 80 percent of homes in Jefferson and St. Charles counties are owner-occupied, compared with less than 45 percent in St. Louis City.
