Gov. Jay Nixon announced that Dr. Joe Parks has been named the director of the MO HealthNet Division of the Missouri Department of Social Services, effective Dec. 16.

Parks is currently the chief medical officer for the Missouri Department of Mental Health. He brings nearly two decades of experience in public health to his new position with the MO HealthNet Division, which purchases and monitors health care services for low-income Missourians.

“With more than 850,000 Missourians enrolled in Medicaid, the MO HealthNet Division impacts families in every community throughout the state,” Brian Kinkade, the acting director of the Missouri Department of Social Services, said in a statement. “Ensuring that this program continues to meet the needs of our most vulnerable populations is critically important and we appreciate Dr. Parks bringing his expertise and insight to the furthering of this mission.”
